Altare Studios AB pays tribute to environmental sustainability, and this commitment extends to its range of classic glass items. Partnering with Reijmyre Glassworks in Sweden, Altare Studios ensures that its glass products are crafted from completely lead-free crystal. The production process at Reijmyre Glassworks is environmentally conscious, utilizing electric furnaces that are energy efficient and emit no nitrogen oxide or carbon dioxide. Moreover, the glassworks exclusively utilizes electricity from renewable sources such as water and wind power, while also implementing a closed-loop system where discarded glass is recycled and reused. Waste materials like corrugated board are sorted and sent for recycling, minimizing environmental impact.

Opting for Swedish glass not only supports local industries but also reduces carbon emissions associated with transportation. By producing timeless and durable glass products, Altare Studios aims to minimize resource wastage and promote sustainability. Classic glass objects are treasured over time, often preserved for generations or repurposed as thoughtful gifts.

At Reijmyre Glassworks in Östergötland, various glassblowing techniques are employed, including the artisanal method of driving. Skilled glassmakers use a glassblowing pipe to inflate the glass, a technique dating back thousands of years. The glass is then shaped by hand, akin to pottery turning, before being attached to a punty rod for further refinement. The finished glass is meticulously formed using cutting shears and drive shears. After shaping, the glass undergoes a gradual cooling process in a specialized oven, reducing its temperature from 500°C to room temperature over approximately six hours. This intricate process ensures the production of high-quality, handcrafted glass items with minimal environmental impact.
